Cat breeders can be confused about the subject of DNA testing for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM). As of February 2023, several different DNA tests for HCM in cats are available: one for Maine Coons, one for Ragdolls, and one for Sphynx. These tests are breed specific, therefore can not be used to detect genetic HCM in other breeds of cats.
Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency, also known as PK Deficiency or PK Def, is a genetic disease that causes anemia in an affected cat. It is caused by a mutated gene that is inherited as an autosomal recessive trait.
