Not all Persians are created equal… For sometimes, what is a Persian in one cat registry is not considered a Persian in a different registry.
If you are unaware of these differences between registries, it can lead to disappointments when purchasing a cat that is registered in a different organization than the one you intend to breed and show in.
So… When is a Persian not a Persian?
CFA is the most conservative of the world cat registries when it comes to differentiating between a Persian with only Persians in their pedigree and Persians with Himalayan or Exotic in their pedigrees.
For instance, in CFA, a Persian “appearing” cat that has an Exotic in its pedigree is not considered a Persian at all — but is called a Longhaired Exotic.
Because of the possibility of such a situation, if you show in CFA, this means you need to be very careful when purchasing cats from other countries or other registries.
