February 20, 2004, popular CFA judge, Vaughn Barber, quietly passed away following an extended illness.Vaughn was an award winning commercial interior designer, a lieutenant in the Office of Special Investigations U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1957, a passionate gardener and civic leader.
A CFA all breed judge since 1971, he was often in demand in the United States and enjoyed judging in countries around the world including Canada, Japan, Australia, Sweden, Belgium, Holland, Germany, San Marino, France, Switzerland, Italy & Russia to name just a few. His devotion to CFA and to making it the premier cat association was without bounds.
Vaughn was instrumental in establishing the Cameo Persian as a recognized color and in 2002 CFA awarded him its highest honor, the Medal of Honor. Vaughn was a member of the CFA Board of Directors and was instrumental in spearheading CFA’s entry into Europe. He was also part of the committee that established the CFA Foundation.
Vaughn was a wise and gentle man who embodied all the qualities of a quintessential Southern gentleman. A conservative, patriotic individual, he had a warm and caring interest that extended to everyone he met. He had a delightful sense of humor, often telling the funniest stories at his own expense.
He will be greatly missed.
