Excerpts from the 1964 CFA Yearbook, Part 1

The year was 1964… it was a year that:

• The Beatles make their first visit to America, appearing on the Ed Sullivan show
• The first Ford Mustang is produced
• The Kellogg’s “Pop-Tart” debuts
• Dr Martin Luther King Jr wins Nobel Peace Price
• NBC approves a pilot episode of “Star Trek”
• The movie “Mary Poppins” debuts, and goes on to win 5 Academy Awards

Measuring just 6″ x 9″, the yearbook was again a soft-cover, spiral-bound book, sold for the cost of $2.50. It had 192 pages, and ads from 49 catteries.

Only about 500 copies were ever printed – which combined with the fragility of a paperback publication with plastic spiral binding – makes it a very hard find these days!

Some notable items from the minutes of the Board Meetings that year were:

• The Domestic Shorthair was renamed to American Shorthair
• The Havana Brown,  Rex, and Red Colorpoint Shorthairs were all recognized for championship
• The Red Abyssinian was accepted for showing (after being denied the previous year)
• CFA establishes a Judging School
• Central Office moves to a larger building, and consolidates under the direction of an Office Manager
